please read this if you’re a go-getter
lately, ive been very proud of myself.
physically, mentally, socially, emotionally. overall, just very proud in how far ive come.
i dont know everything about you, but i guess you’re slightly similar to me in that you’re a type A go getter.
you hustle and bustle and go here and there and do this and that.
and you love it.
but do you love yourself?
and i dont mean this in a *ooey-gooey-spiritual-twitter-dude “*self-love”, but can you look in the mirror, smile, and say “wow, maybe im not awful”.
because that’s what life’s about.
you are born into this world and die with one person holding your hand.
yourself.

how can you be a better person for your friends?
what is something you cannot give up?
1 musing
the past is not something to repress.
not something to leave behind and never visit again.
the past is part of you. inextricably linked to you. in fact, without your past, there is no sense of “you”. no continuity. if we were to leave behind our past, we’d be leaving behind our sense of self.
and though some of us aspire to become buddhist monks meditating high in the mountains, most of us don’t want that life. we want to be with the people we love. we want to see the mountains and the valleys and the birds chirping in between the trees. we want to love ourselves and the world.
and this sort of love, this authentic, deep, tangible love you can hold in your hands, this kind of love is only experienced through understanding.
understanding our past, diving into it, and accepting it.
there’s no reason to hate where you came from. without it, you wouldn’t be where you are now.
feel your past completely. this doesn’t mean you must worship it and stay stuck in it. but understand the past.
because when you understand where you came from, you can understand where you are right now, and most importantly, where you want to go.
embrace the past. wholeheartedly.
