1 reflection
opening up to family.
for most of my life(and by most i mean 21 years, 5 months, and 16 days) i’ve been quite sheltered in how i speak to my family.
i say certain things. and i don’t say 99% of the other things that go through my mind. you have to hold a certain level of “expectations” around your family, right? don’t prod too deeply into this. don’t question or challenge that. and don’t you DARE even think about bringing up any conversation that may interepreted as “ever-so-slightly-taboo”.
but yesterday, i kinda let those barriers down. the more i’ve been in los angeles the past 5 months, the less ive censored my speech or judged words before they’ve been spit out of my mouth. that’s not to say i’ve been unintentional or completely unfiltered in every sense of the word - but i just haven’t been holding my tongue as much.
sure that comes with pros and cons, but the PROS REALLY OUTWEIGH THE CONS.
at least in my case.
the less i judge the questions and conversations that come into my head before speaking them, the more honest, funny, real, good conversations i have. especially with my family. especially with my brother, who i’ve got quite a weird relationship and sibling-ship with.
i guess the real reason im writing this all is because i feel the WORST when i tell lies. and there’s a difference between telling lies and shorting the truth - but when i don’t represent myself like i am, i just feel like shit.
i don’t like it.
not one bit.
love you.
share this with a friend if you enjoyed it.
