monkey floating in space
and doing DMT
take life seriously. not too seriously.
we’re just a bunch of floating monkeys in space.
but at least we’ve got bananas, coffee, and house music :)
gems of the week
list of things ive discovered and wanted to share
armaan thoughts
im addicted to 23 year old women with patchwork tattoos and nose rings
make fun of yourself around others, it shows them you’re slightly self-aware and makes you less serious of your own identity
no need to accept every thought that pops into your mind
spend lots of money on the small things that bring you incredible joy.
1 reflection
does anyone else talk down to themselves?
just this morning, as i awoke from my deep slumber, yearning for a cup of coffee and the smell of fried bacon, i began throwing insults and worries at my mind.
“bills to pay. videos to edit. texts to get back to. projects to begin, end, and something in the middle. food to eat. BILLS TO PAY DUDE YOU’RE SLIGHTLY AN ADULT. fuck i really dont want to text that person.”
you get the point.
sometimes ill talk to myself like you talk to a puppy-in-training.
“NO.”
“SIT! no! no- no, no no, n-, good boy! well done! look who’s such a good bo- NO!! SIT!”
going back and forth between red lights and green lights to show myself, attempting to fit my actions into some Procrustean bed of “ideal” and “virtue”.
what the fuck?!
now i say that out loud and see how pretentious my little fickle mind is, always attempting to optimize my experience of life.
and now we come to a deeper truth.
it sucks to always optimize.
check out Barry Schwartz’s The Paradox of Choice - but TLDR, those constantly trying to optimize every part of their life often have worse psychological outcomes than those who know how to say “good enough” and move on.
and sometimes, that’s all you’ve gotta do. smile. wave.
and move on from a thought instead of policing your mind about it.
why move on?
because my friend, you’re with yourself 100% of the time. your inner monologue is like a best friend you’re always with.
why would you want that friend to be an asshole?
thanks for stopping by. love you.
share this with a friend if you enjoyed it.
just send them this link.
