on regret
last night i spent about 2-3 hours shuffling back and forth the dance floor, rubbing against sweaty elbows and breathing stuffy, marijuana-spiked air.
i fluttered from end to end, making eye contact with strangers and nods to guys as i passed by.
and every now and then, if they looked approachable, i’d start a convo. about anything.
the room. their drink.clothes they wore.
JUST SOMETHING.
and though i looked like a fucking buffoon for part of it.
it was fun as fuck.
and also, i can look back and said i tried to have a good time. and honestly, i did. so w.
recently i’ve been testing out a new decision-making framework.
minimizing regret.
making decisions in the present based on how i’d feel about them in the future.
ive noticed i suffer most when i say “but what if i did this?” or “what could’ve happened if i did that?”
and those feelings, regretting the past and wishing you’d done something you didn’t do, that’s suffering.
so rather than trying to rationalize that voice or get rid of it, i listen. and say “yeah, fuck regret”.
so now im a bit more privy to start the conversation or look like an idiot or ask out the girl. whatever it is.
and lowkey, it’s fun.
now my internal scorecard is quite positive.
and i can look back and say “yeah, i tried.”
:)
