a very serious start to the week
this past week has been tough for me in many ways. in a good way for sure, but tough nonetheless. i think this next one will be tough too

1 reflection
delusion
delusions are the root of suffering.
that is not to say delusions are bad, for suffering is oftentimes the strongest propellant for positive change. but too much delusion, too many lies we repeat back to ourselves as we stare into the abyss of our 3am reflection, eyes bloodshot and skin sagging;
the more delusions we reinforce then, at that fragile time, the more pain we will inevitably feel. the more pain that distracts us from seeing life’s beauty.
there is one grand illusion.
the one that says “i’ll be happy when.”
when you hear this voice within yourself, drop everything.
drop everything and hug yourself.
watch a children’s movie and sip hot cocoa.
eat a tasty meal with friends you love.
do anything but let this voice trick you into believing it’s true.
for this delusion is the most illusory of them all.
it imprisons you from everyday joy.
it withholds you from happiness and peace and smiles that come with being a human.
it keeps you from having the brutally honest, yet brutally necessary conversation with yourself, that perhaps the life of joy and love we all so desperately desire isn’t a result of accomplishment or external achievement, but one that begins when we find love within.
it’s scary to accept that. scary to accept the Truth that perhaps our own fear and neuroses and unhappiness is self-created, and self-sustained.
because if we do not find joy each time we say the word “I”, then maybe we’ll never find it at all.
perhaps joy is not something we find.
perhaps it is not an external being that patiently sits, waiting for us. perhaps joy is something we create ourselves.
something we create and water in the morning, kiss it goodnight, and smile at as the sun rises. perhaps that sort of gentle, loving connection with joy itself, that’s what the illusion keeps us from.
so dear friend, as you sink further into conditional contracts and delusions, please remember that everything you so desperately seek to find is within.
and it’s not found within.
it’s created.
love you.
