Musing

My mantra this week:

“When opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”

I was listening to a podcast with online creators Drew Hallgrimson and Ty Farrago this week, and Ty mentioned this quote. It’s been circling the recesses of my mind for the past week and rattling me back and forth

Life is tough. And oftentimes when things aren’t going our way, we blame others.

“I don’t have my dream job because my family couldn’t send me to the expensive college”

“I don’t have a healthy body because I have to work 40 hours a week and my boss sucks”

“If it wasn’t for my boyfriend then I’d move out of this shitty town and live somewhere I want”

We blame the people around us for the life that we’re living. We blame our circumstances for our failures or inaction or wrong decisions.

But at the end of the day, when things aren’t going our way, there are 2 things we can do.

  1. Cry about it

OR

  1. Take action

So if opportunity isn’t knocking, build a door.

🎙️Pod of the Week - Dan Koe and Dickie Bush on One-Person Businesses, Creative Workflows, and Lifestyle Design

WOW, this pod was amazing. I’m starting to dip my toes into the world of internet entrepreneurship and creating your own businesses, and this was a wonderful introduction to dive into that world. Writers, entrepreneurs, creators, and interesting people Dan Koe and Dickie Bush talk about the mindset behind building million-dollar businesses, their daily routines, and offer insight into launching an online career.

🎼 Song of the Week - The Shire by Howard Shore

During my focus hours of deep work, I love listening to cinematic scores. This gem from the Lord of the Rings trilogy by Howard Shore will not leave my mind. Between the whimsical motifs and beautiful orchestration, this will leave you with a smile on your face in no time.

📺 What I’m Watching - Prada: Fascism and Fashion

I LOVE video essays. And usually I listen to essays on psychology or philosophy or films and TV, but this one was in my recommended and immediately caught my eye. I’ve always considered myself decently well dressed, but never into high fashion or knowledgeable like someone into fashion. This video is amazing, conveying the story behind the Prada empire and the political statements made by design team. I love it.

💡 A Quote to Ponder -

“A calm mind, a fit body, and a house full of love.

These things cannot be bought.

They must be earned” - Naval Ravikant
